OCS Foundation

Participation That Has Turned Into Action

OCS Foundation works across different causes, but each initiative is built around a common principle: meaningful change grows when people understand an issue and choose to participate.

Over the years, children, women farmers, volunteers, professionals, organisations, institutions and citizens have become part of OCS Foundation initiatives through learning programmes, environmental campaigns, expeditions, humanitarian support and community participation.

The numbers below represent selected milestones documented across our programmes.

Building Capacity and Opportunity

Farm to Prosperity works with women farmers from the hills of Uttarakhand.

Unlike some OCS initiatives, the latest brochure does not provide a consolidated numerical beneficiary figure for this programme.

Its documented work focuses on strengthening four areas:

Skills

Training in sustainable farming practices, organic fertilisers, pest management and soil conservation.

Resources

Improving access to quality seeds, tools and agricultural resources.

Markets

Supporting stronger market connections and opportunities for fairer income.

Empowerment

Encouraging awareness of rights, credit, government schemes and participation in decisions affecting livelihoods.

The next stage of the programme focuses on reaching more women in remote areas, encouraging sustainable farming, supporting value addition and strengthening collective learning.

Changing Behaviour Through Everyday Participation

Several OCS Foundation environmental initiatives focus on actions that individuals can practise every day.

Carry a reusable cloth bag.

Reduce unnecessary water flow.

Do not throw waste on the road.

Keep public spaces clean.

Protect rivers and natural environments.

The scale of these programmes demonstrates how simple behavioural messages can reach large numbers of people.

1 Lakh Plus

Cloth bags distributed

5,000 Plus

Volunteers pledged to avoid single use polythene bags

Every Number Represents Participation

Statistics help show the reach of an initiative.

But behind every figure is an individual action.

A child attended a workshop.

A professional shared experience.

A volunteer carried an awareness message.

A citizen signed a pledge.

Someone chose a cloth bag instead of polythene.

A household reduced unnecessary water use.

A volunteer participated in an expedition.

A supporter provided resources during a humanitarian emergency.

The impact of OCS Foundation is therefore not only the number of people reached.

It is also the number of people who chose to participate.

Impact Continues After the Campaign Ends

Some forms of impact can be counted immediately.

Bags distributed.

Workshops conducted.

Students reached.

Pledges signed.

Other forms of impact are reflected in what people continue to do afterwards.

Carrying a reusable bag.

Using less water.

Keeping waste inside the car until a dustbin is available.

Respecting a riverbank.

Sharing knowledge with a child.

Helping someone during a crisis.

These repeated behaviours are an important part of the long term purpose behind OCS Foundation initiatives.

More People Can Be Reached When Organisations Join In

Several OCS Foundation initiatives create opportunities for corporate organisations, institutions, schools and professionals to participate.

Organisations can contribute through:

Employee volunteering

Professional expertise

Educational interactions

Programme resources

Campaign materials

Logistics

Community outreach

Humanitarian support

Financial contributions

Partnership allows individual participation to become organised collective action.

Build on What Has Been Learned

The milestones documented here represent progress across different stages of the OCS Foundation journey.

They are not an endpoint.

Pankh can reach more children.

Farm to Prosperity can connect with more women farmers.

Environmental campaigns can influence more everyday choices.

Humanitarian initiatives can respond when new needs arise.

Knowledge platforms can reach new learners and languages.

Every programme continues to develop through experience, participation and support.

The Next Number Begins With Another Person Participating

The next child reached.

The next woman farmer supported.

The next reusable bag carried.

The next litre of water conserved.

The next person who chooses not to litter.

The next volunteer who joins an expedition.

The next family supported during an emergency.

The next person who begins exploring deeper knowledge.

Every future milestone begins with participation.
